Here we are again, if you can believe it. Another year gone by. I can safely say that the older you get the faster time seems to go. I’ve heard others say it often, but until you experience it firsthand it’s hard to understand.
So, where shall we start? Well, the Covid-19 epidpemic is slowing down, but not completely gone yet. I would have thought things would have ended sooner, but a part of me knows better than that. Things always take longer than we expect.
In good news, a vaccine was developed and was released I think around the beginning of 2021, maybe even the end of 2020. I got the vaccine from Johnson and Johnson, which was only one shot. I am hopeful it’s protective against the new strain knowns as the Delta Variant.
America seems to be on the uptick but some other countries are still experiencing spikes like the UK and India.
Personal Updates
Rebecca and I still don’t have any kids yet. I think this is the year we focus on that goal and make it happen. It took us quite a few years to get our health in order and both lose weight. Now that we’ve done that, the prospects are looking much better.
I am currently 39 and 2021 is the year I turn 40. That seems really crazy to type out. I’m actually excited to be turning 40 though, as I’ve felt 40 the last 3-4 years haha. Not physically, just mentally.
In the business world, things are good. I have a small course teaching experienced copywriters how to setup a “brain” system to create copy faster and easier. I am hopeful that that business will flourish into a nice side-business for years to come.
I primarily work in the health space and love helping people get in the best shape of their lives. In my own health, I continue to stay around the 220 pound mark. I am experimenting with intermittent fasting and low carb diets. My record fast is 72 hours.
One of my goals is to do a 7 day fast at some point. I think I can do it.
Rebecca purchased a small travel trailer this year and we are looking forward to traveling more in it. I’ll be pulling the trailer in my Jeep which should be fun. My Mom and Brother will stay at our house when we’re gone to watch the house and my good old dog Chuck.
I feel better than I have in years. I’ve been through a lot the last 3 years personally and in business, but it feels good to know that I can survive and get back on my feet. For years I taught about overcoming adversity through my health story. Now, I can talk about it in business too.
As always, I’ll end this brief update with a note about America. This last year has been one where many forces are coming at the idea of America as a “good” nation. Our past sins seem to be unforgivable by a loud minority of the country.
While I can understand the pain and suffering that previous generations endured, it is difficult for me to blame America directly. America is at fault for slavery and other injustices, yes. I just feel that the real culprit is humanity.
Humans are animals with a deadly streak and violence and subjegation of others are sadly coded into our DNA. In that way, I am proud of America for making the choices she did (over time) to improve and change and do better.
When looking at the past, there are two views it seems that are popular. One is “America messed up and she must perpetually pay for what she did and the wrongs can never be righted”. The other is that America messed up, but has taken great strides to improve.
I side with the latter view because I don’t view our country or it’s people as uniquely evil or wrong. America’s actions were (sadly) approved by majorities of people. And morality seems to be reliant on the culture at the time. This isn’t meant to excuse or justify behavior. Just to point out that hindsight is 20/20.
Ok with that out of the way – let me just say. Happy Birthday America!
