2020. It was supposed to be the year of finding a new vision. Instead, it’s been probably the toughest year most people have ever seen. I started hearing rumblings of a virus coming out of Wuhan, China I would guess in late November or early December 2019. I honestly didn’t think too much of it because there is usually a story every year from China about some crazy virus that is spreading. (Or so it seems to me).
I remember laying in bed one night, scrolling through Twitter when I heard a voicemail left by a Chinese nurse basically crying and she sounded exhausted. I read the translations which said that China was downplaying the virus and that people were dying left and right. I remember thinking at the time, well, I don’t speak Mandarin, so who knows if this is even properly translated.
Then, sometime in February or early March, I remember thinking… oh no, this virus is gonna turn into a worldwide pandemic. I remember feeling frustrated because I knew this could potentially kill millions of people and wreck the whole world economy. But, I also felt powerless. As a stoic, however, powerless is basically the state I am always in. I have no power of most outcomes in my life, my only power lies in my ability to respond to events as they happen.
Still, I watched in horror as entire countries shut down, we were placed on lockdown here in the states, and the virus spread, seemingly unabated by our attempts to slow it down. I continued to watch as businesses went bankrupt, lives were ruined, and the death count tallied up. The media, while not gleeful for the death, did seem particularly focused on the deaths, no doubt to drive up their ratings.
This spread fear far and wide, as maybe it should have.
Now, we have reopened and as of today, we are seeing a big uptick in new case infections. It seems like Florida is setting new records every day with cases. The deaths haven’t started piling up yet. I am cautiously optimistic that a weaker strain of the virus is spreading now, though that is pure conjecture. The next 30 days will tell us plenty. It will be interesting to see where we’re at next year. The current belief is that we’ll have a vaccine by then, I pray that is true.
There have also been protests sparked around the killing of an unarmed black man named George Floyd. Watching the video is gut-wrenching. To see a grown man beg for his life is not something one should ever see.
I think there is a drastic need for police reform in this country. I think the protests were justified and needed, though I do believe they may have helped spread the coronavirus. I am not a supporter of riots or destruction of private property. I don’t think violence is required in a country where we can vote and petition for change. I get the frustration and the lack of progress and will support changes to policing in this country in a common-sense way.
Whew!
That’s just two of the big things that have happened this year. Next, there are the aliens! Seriously though, while no aliens have landed (yet) the Pentagon did release some footage of UFO’s which is interesting to say the least.
UPDATE: Also Kanye West just announced he’s running for President… we’ll see where that goes!
And that brings me to my personal updates:
- Rebecca and I are coming up to our 6th Anniversary! Very exciting. We love our lives and our next goal is to start a family. Hoping for a major update in that department next year.
- I went through massive business pain last year and ended up exiting my business.
- Thankfully, I still have many opportunities I am able to pursue.
- I’ve actually never been happier in my life as I feel for the first time that I am truly “finding myself” and realizing my true purpose even more
- I am getting jacked! My weight has gone up to about 225 right now, but I’ve put on a lot of muscle. I will lean out more, but it feels good to be gaining strength and muscle!
- I have an idea for a website I would like to start at some point but haven’t the time for it just yet.
- I got a new puppy named Winnie and she’s amazing. She’s a french bulldog and is just the cutest thing ever.
I want to end my update by also giving a shout out to the USA! Can’t believe you’ve been around since 1776. You’ve been through a lot. You weren’t always perfect, but you guided the world out of darkness into the light and the world owes you for that. I am so thankful I was born here and I am grateful for all that you’ve given me.
